Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Rust-France collects through its website, Rust leaderboard, Steam authentication and Discord account-linking features, why that information is used, how long it is kept, and how you can request access or deletion.
1. Scope and data controller
This Privacy Policy applies to the Rust-France statistics website at stats.rust-france.net, its leaderboard and profile features, connected-account features, and the Rust-France Discord application/bot functions used to link and verify accounts.
For the purposes of this policy, “Rust-France”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the Rust-France community and its administration team operating these services. Rust-France determines why and how personal data processed by these services is used.
2. Information we collect
Steam account information
- SteamID64.
- Public Steam display name and avatar.
- Authentication status and timestamps needed to identify the owner of a Rust-France profile.
- Publicly available Steam profile information when required for server or anti-abuse features.
Rust and leaderboard information
- Server statistics such as kills, deaths, playtime, headshots, combat statistics, wipe history, rankings and related gameplay metrics.
- Clan membership, clan name/tag, clan settings and information voluntarily entered into clan features.
- Server moderation information where relevant, including bans and records required to operate and protect Rust-France servers.
- Profile preferences, statistics-privacy choices, rewards, badges, titles, cosmetic selections and similar leaderboard settings.
Technical and security information
- IP address and browser/user-agent information in limited security, anti-abuse and administrative logs.
- Session identifiers, OAuth security state, CSRF protection values and signed cookies required for authentication and account linking.
- Security events, rate-limit events and administrative actions needed to detect misuse and protect the service.
3. Discord data and API usage
Rust-France uses Discord OAuth2 to let a player link a Discord identity to an authenticated Steam identity. The current OAuth authorization requests the identify scope.
| Discord data | Why we use it |
|---|---|
| Discord user ID | Creates a stable link between the Discord account and the matching Steam account and prevents one Discord identity from verifying multiple Steam profiles. |
| Username / global display name | Shows the linked identity to the account owner and helps with support and verification. |
| Avatar | Displays the linked Discord identity in connected-account interfaces. |
| Guild membership / verified-role status | Checks whether the linked user is in the Rust-France Discord server and assigns, confirms or removes the configured verified role. |
| Link and sync timestamps/status | Maintains the connection state and troubleshoots account verification. |
Discord API data is used only for the Rust-France features described in this policy and is not sold or used for third-party advertising.
4. How we use your information
- Authenticate users with Steam and establish ownership of a leaderboard profile.
- Link Steam and Discord accounts and display a verified-account badge.
- Assign, check and remove the Rust-France Discord verified role.
- Operate leaderboards, player profiles, clans, rewards, statistics history and community features.
- Apply account-security rules, including the one-Steam-to-one-Discord and one-Discord-to-one-Steam verification model.
- Prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorized access and manipulation of rewards or community features.
- Enforce Rust-France server/community rules and maintain moderation records.
- Diagnose errors, maintain service availability and respond to support requests.
- Measure general website usage and improve performance and usability.
5. Legal bases for processing
Where the GDPR or similar law applies, processing may rely on one or more of the following bases:
- Performance of a service: processing needed to provide authentication, leaderboard, profile, clan and account-linking features you request.
- Consent: for optional actions such as initiating the Discord OAuth connection. You can withdraw this by unlinking your account.
- Legitimate interests: protecting the service, preventing abuse, maintaining accurate server statistics, enforcing community rules and improving Rust-France.
- Legal obligations: where information must be kept or disclosed to comply with applicable law or a valid legal request.
6. Information that may be public
Rust-France is a gaming-statistics service. Some information is therefore intended to be visible to other visitors, including a Steam display name, Steam avatar, SteamID64, Rust statistics, rankings, clan information, selected cosmetics and verification status.
The linked Discord user ID and Discord account details are not intended to be published as part of the public leaderboard merely because an account is verified. A public verified badge may indicate that Steam and Discord have been successfully linked.
Where profile privacy controls are available, they can be used to hide supported categories of detailed statistics. Some information may remain visible where necessary for server integrity, moderation or the core leaderboard.
7. When information may be shared
We do not sell personal data. Information may be disclosed only where reasonably necessary to operate Rust-France, including:
- Discord: to authenticate a Discord user and manage the verified role through Discord's APIs.
- Valve / Steam: to authenticate Steam accounts and obtain public Steam profile information.
- Infrastructure providers: hosting, network, CDN, security, logging or similar technical providers that process data only as required to provide the service.
- Analytics providers: where website analytics are enabled.
- Legal or safety requests: if disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect users, Rust-France, or third parties from fraud, abuse or security threats.
8. Cookies, sessions and analytics
Rust-France uses essential browser storage and cookies to keep users signed in, protect forms and OAuth flows, remember a connected-account state and secure sessions. A signed connected-account fallback cookie may be valid for up to approximately 30 days.
The website may also use analytics technologies such as Google Analytics. These services may receive standard technical information such as IP-derived location, browser/device information, page interactions and referral information according to their own policies and the configuration used by Rust-France.
Blocking essential cookies may prevent login, account linking or other authenticated features from working correctly.
9. Data retention
- Discord connected-account data: kept while the Discord account remains linked and while needed to provide verification. Unlinking removes the local Discord identity link and triggers removal of the configured verified role when role synchronization is enabled.
- Steam identity data: may be retained as the stable identifier for a Rust-France player profile and historical leaderboard records.
- Gameplay and leaderboard history: may be retained for historical rankings, wipe history, server statistics and integrity of the service.
- Moderation and security records: may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to enforce server rules, prevent abuse, investigate incidents or comply with legal obligations.
- Temporary session/cached data: is removed or expires when it is no longer needed according to the technical purpose of that session or cache.
When data is no longer required for its stated purpose, we will delete, anonymize or aggregate it where reasonably possible and subject to legitimate security, moderation and legal needs.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect account links and service data, including OAuth state validation, CSRF protection, access controls, server-side sessions, anti-abuse checks and administrative logging. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Users are responsible for protecting their Steam and Discord accounts. Rust-France will never need your Steam or Discord password to link an account.
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability of personal data and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Users in France or the European Economic Area may also have the right to lodge a complaint with their competent data-protection authority. In France, that authority is the CNIL.
12. Data deletion and Discord unlinking
Unlink Discord immediately
When signed in to Rust-France, open Connected Accounts and use the Discord unlink option. This removes the active Discord identity link from the Rust-France connected-account record and, when configured, removes the Rust-France verified Discord role.
Request deletion or access
For a broader privacy request, including deletion of Discord API data or other account data, contact the Rust-France administration through Rust-France Support or open a support ticket on the official Rust-France Discord server.
Please include the relevant SteamID64 and, if the request concerns a Discord link, the Discord user ID. We may ask you to verify ownership before deleting or disclosing account information.
https://stats.rust-france.net/privacy.php#data-deletion.13. Minors
Rust-France services are intended for users who are permitted to use Rust, Steam and Discord under those platforms' rules and the laws applicable to them. We do not knowingly use connected-account information to build advertising profiles of children.
14. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this policy when Rust-France features, legal requirements or third-party integrations change. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page identifies the current version. Material changes may also be announced through the website or Discord where appropriate.
15. Contact
Questions, privacy requests or complaints can be submitted through Rust-France Support or through an official Rust-France Discord support ticket.
For general service rules, please also review the Terms and Conditions.
